The death toll from a devastating fire at a Bangkok bar has reached 34 following the death of a 20-year-old woman, health authorities confirmed. Apinya Sukthongsa died early Sunday in the hospital from severe injuries sustained during the July 12 blaze at the Rong Beer Na Lad Phrao bar and restaurant.
The Erawan Emergency Medical Centre reported that around 70 people were injured in the incident, with 13 victims still in intensive care. Most fatalities resulted from smoke inhalation or severe burns, according to police officials.
The deadly fire rapidly engulfed the popular live music venue. Investigators are currently examining the cause, with a critical focus on potential safety violations. Many victims' bodies were found near the restrooms, raising serious questions about obstructed fire exits. Building safety experts have indicated that the venue likely lacked the required safety systems for hosting large crowds.
This tragedy has reignited long-standing concerns regarding Thailand’s enforcement of health and safety regulations in entertainment venues. The incident closely echoes the tragic 2009 Santika club fire in Bangkok, which claimed 67 lives and injured over 200 during New Year celebrations.
