RAB Arrests 8 More Over Extortion Attack on Chittagong Internet Firm

RAB has arrested eight more individuals including the suspected chief coordinator, in connection with the recent attack on a Chittagong internet service provider.

On Sunday, RAB-7 confirmed the arrests, stating the suspects were identified through CCTV footage of the incident. Weapons used in the attack were also recovered, and authorities have released photos of four of the suspects.

The incident occurred on a Monday afternoon when an armed group stormed the Baklia Access Road office of Digital Dot Net (DDN).

According to a case filed by a DDN official at the Chawkbazar Police Station, the attack was retaliation for refusing an extortion demand. The First Information Report (FIR) details a July 11 phone call made to DDN owner Adil Bin Mahmud by someone claiming to be Mobarak Hossain Emon (alias David Emon). Emon—a known follower of fugitive terrorist Sajjad—allegedly demanded a one-time payment of Tk 2 crore (20 million) and a monthly toll of Tk 10 lakh (1 million). An audio recording of this conversation has since gone viral on social media.

Following the company's refusal to pay, a group of 30 to 40 armed assailants stormed the DDN office. They destroyed computers, laptops, and furniture, causing an estimated Tk 1.5 million in damages. The attackers also looted three mobile phones, Tk 47,000 in petty cash, and a bag containing Tk 3.5 million from the company's director.

Police had previously arrested eight other individuals two days after the attack. The newly identified suspects include Md. Yunus (41), Imran Hossain Chang (31), Akbar Hossain (24), Md. Sumon (27), Gias Uddin (21), Md. Nayan (20), and Abdul Nahid alias Farhad (28).
