Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) is set to expand its academic offerings following the unanimous approval of a new 'Faculty of Health Sciences' during the university's 58th Regents Board meeting.
Dr. Rahat Mahmud, Director of the university’s Public Relations and Publications Department, confirmed the decision in a recent press release.
The proposed faculty will initially launch three departments: Physiotherapy, Physical Education and Sports, and Nursing and Health Science.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Hemayet Jahan stated, “Once we receive approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC), we will initiate the subsequent administrative and academic activities to establish the faculty.”
University officials expect the new faculty to broaden higher education and research opportunities at PSTU, playing a vital role in developing skilled human resources for the medical sector. The initiative is expected to be particularly beneficial for students from Bangladesh's southern region.
Currently, PSTU operates 10 faculties: Agriculture, Fisheries, Veterinary, Nutrition and Food Science, Business Administration, Computer Science and Engineering, Law and Land Administration, Environmental Science and Disaster Management, Engineering, and Oceanography.
The addition of the Health Sciences faculty will bring the university's total number of faculties to 11, significantly contributing to the nation's healthcare workforce.
