An autorickshaw driver was stabbed to death during a hijacking in the Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday night. Police have arrested one suspect and recovered the stolen vehicle, while a manhunt is underway for two accomplices.

The victim, 40-year-old Nabirul Islam from neighboring Birampur upazila, picked up three passengers at the Dhaka intersection in Phulbari around 10:00 p.m. According to police and local sources, the men claimed they were heading to South Shahabajpur.

When they reached the Kurshakhali Railgate area, the passengers attempted to hijack the vehicle. After Nabirul resisted, the attackers stabbed him, dumped him by the roadside, and fled with the autorickshaw.

Locals rescued the critically injured driver and rushed him to the Phulbari Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that night.

Acting on a tip-off, police launched a raid around 1:00 a.m. and arrested 22-year-old Akash Ahmed in Ghoraghat upazila, successfully recovering the stolen autorickshaw. The two other suspects managed to escape.

Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Latif Shah confirmed the arrest. "The victim's body has been sent for an autopsy. His uncle, Nurul Islam, has filed a murder case, and our operation to apprehend the remaining absconding suspects is ongoing," he stated.
