In a joint operation on Sunday (July 19), the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and Dhaka Customs House seized at least 16 kg of gold hidden inside fruit cartons at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's cargo village.
Officials suspect the gold was smuggled from Hong Kong on a Cathay Pacific Airways flight. Acting on an intelligence tip-off, authorities intercepted the consignment, which documents show was imported by a company named Food Link under Air Waybill number 16012740092.
Customs Additional Commissioner Muhammad Kamrul Hasan confirmed the seizure. An investigation is currently underway to identify the smugglers, track the true owner of the gold, and dismantle the wider smuggling network. Authorities are expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
