Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain announced that efforts are underway to convert waste into valuable resources. Waste will be utilized to produce biogas and green diesel. You will be able to sell your waste, and we will compensate you for it. That time is approaching. Do not lose hope.

The fee you currently pay for door-to-door service, which is 70 taka, is an investment. Eventually, this will become free of charge. In the future, you will receive money in return.

He made these remarks during the one-year anniversary event of Mayor Shahadat Hossain at the ICC in Kazir Deuri, Chattogram City on Thursday afternoon, November 6.

The mayor stated that this year, we will inaugurate 50-60 major roads. In December, we will launch our Chattogram apps featuring 10 citizen services. The city generates over 3,000 tons of waste, but we can only collect 2,200 tons. I have initiated a door-to-door waste collection project. If anyone charges more than 70 taka per household, do not pay them on Facebook and report it to the city corporation; I will take action against them. I am set to produce biogas for the first time in the country right here in Chattogram. In a year or so, I will start compensating for garbage collection. To maintain a clean city, we must achieve 100% waste collection. Thanks to the door-to-door initiative, we have successfully collected over 500 tons of waste this month.

The mayor emphasized that there will be no leniency in the collection of commercial holding tax. It is our right to collect at least 200 crore taka in holding tax from the port. Under AJM Nasir's administration, the amount dropped from 51 crore taka to 11 crore taka. During Khorshed Alam Sujan's tenure, it was smoothed out. Under Mayor Rezaul's leadership, it was addressed. I have initiated a disciplinary process and have lodged a complaint.

He remarked, "Teen gangs pose a significant challenge. We need to raise mental health awareness among teenagers. The harmful effects of drugs must be communicated. To address this, we have launched a project in collaboration with actor Palash (Kabila).

In reply to a question, he mentioned that 3.5 lakh families have received citizen cards. We will implement ICT initiatives for the unemployed in Kalurghat. A tourism town will be established in Char Baklia, creating numerous job opportunities. If the monorail project commences, we will be able to offer employment to 8-10 thousand jobless individuals.

Special guest DIG Md. Ahsan Habib Palash stated that people from across the nation visit Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts to find respite. Therefore, the entire Chattogram area should be transformed into a space for relaxation. Currently, there is a lack of quality parks in Chattogram city. I envision a park, botanical garden, and aquarium similar to Ramna Park in Dhaka.

Development projects associated with the port are being hindered due to personal agendas. If Chattogram thrives, the country will thrive. Although I am not originally from Chattogram, I have a deep affection for it.
