Dialysis services have officially launched at the 250-bed Chittagong General Hospital, marking a significant first for the facility.
The service began on a trial basis this Monday with its first patient. Hospital authorities noted that this addition is a major milestone for local kidney care. Previously, ICU patients requiring dialysis had to be referred to other hospitals now, they can receive critical treatment on-site.
While only one dialysis machine is currently operational, the addition is expected to lower long-term medical costs for patients. Dr. Ashiq Aman, the hospital’s Resident Medical Officer, stated that while this is a vital start, they hope to increase capacity as more manpower and logistical support become available.
Dr. Rajdeep Biswas, the ICU in-charge, confirmed that the primary focus is currently on providing dialysis to patients already admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
