UN Agency IOM Visits Flood-Hit Banshkhali to Distribute Relief

A delegation led by Abdusattor Esoev, Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bangladesh, visited flood-ravaged regions of Banshkhali Upazila in Chattogram on Wednesday afternoon.

The UN migration agency team visited low-lying areas in Katharia Union, interacting directly with displaced residents to assess their immediate needs. As an initial relief effort, the IOM distributed emergency tarpaulins to affected households.

Addressing residents, the IOM delegation expressed deep sympathy for the severe loss of shelter and property caused by recent heavy rains. IOM officials assured the community that the initial distribution of shelter materials is a first step, emphasizing that the agency is actively coordinating further support to assist in long-term rehabilitation.

Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Ruhul Amin, alongside representatives from local partner NGO YPSA (Young Power in Social Action) and Katharia Union Parishad acting Chairman Badsha Mia, accompanied the delegation during the field inspection. Local officials welcomed the UN agency's prompt presence and assistance during the crisis.
