UNO Returns Unspent Tk 3.45 million of Canal Re-excavation Project in Kachua to Government Treasury

The Kachua Upazila administration has returned unspent Tk 3.448 million to the government treasury after completing the work of two canal re-excavation projects in Kachua Upazila of Bagerhat by maintaining the prescribed standards.

The total allocation for this project was Tk 7.733 million, out of which Tk 4.284 million was actually spent.

Meanwhile, the canal re-excavation process started for 1 kilometer from Daritana to the connection of the Baleshwar River, and on the other hand, 1 kilometer from Kundupara in Moghia Union to Khalishakhali.

In view of that, the work of re-excavation of the canal has been completed.

Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Ali Hasan led this initiative to ensure economical use of government funds, transparency and accountability.

This initiative of the administration has been appreciated by local residents, public representatives and various circles.

According to the upazila administration, this initiative was taken to improve the water drainage system, increase agricultural production, eliminate waterlogging during the rainy season and ensure irrigation facilities during the dry season.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Ali Hasan said, "We received allocation from the Disaster Management Ministry to re-excavate two canals in Kachua. One is Gopalpur Canal and the other is Moghia Canal. We have completed the re-excavation of the canals within the specified time. After completing the re-excavation, we have deposited the unused amount of Tk 34 lakh 48 thousands in the government treasury through challan. The canal excavation will greatly benefit the people of the area and the waterlogging will be resolved. I thank the government for giving us the opportunity to be involved in this work. Therefore, it is our duty to ensure maximum transparency, accountability and responsibility in the expenditure of this money." He further said, "Government money is the deposit of the people. Proper use of government resources is essential to ensure good governance. The administration's commitment is to ensure the proper use of every taka allocated for the welfare of the people."
