Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and outgoing Navy Chief Admiral M. Nazmul Hasan officially conferred the rank badge of Vice Admiral upon newly appointed Navy Chief Khondaker Misbah-ul-Azeem today. The formal ceremony took place at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday morning.

The Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the new Navy Chief who in turn expressed gratitude on behalf of the Bangladesh Navy. Senior military and government officials attended the event including Defense Advisor Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan Army Quartermaster General Lieutenant General Md. Shahinur Rahman and Armed Forces Principal Staff Officer Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman.

Vice Admiral Azeem brings nearly four decades of distinguished service to his new command. Commissioned in 1989 after completing initial training with the Royal Malaysian Navy he holds a Ph.D. in Maritime Governance. Throughout his career he has commanded the Chattogram and Dhaka naval regions various submarines and warships and served as Commandant of the Bangladesh Naval Academy. His administrative expertise includes pivotal roles as Director of Naval Operations and Naval Planning.

Beyond domestic service Azeem served in UN Peacekeeping Missions in Lebanon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Most recently he strengthened bilateral ties and advocated for expatriates as Bangladesh's Ambassador to Oman. In recognition of his integrity and professionalism he has been awarded several prestigious honors including the Navy Medal (NBP) and the National Purity Award.
