Bus Owners Demand Strict Ban on Three-Wheelers in Bhola

To ensure road safety the Bhola District Bus and Minibus Owners Association held a press conference today demanding the strict enforcement of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) laws against unauthorized three-wheelers on the Bhola-Char Fashion regional highway.

General Secretary Fazlur Rahman Bachchu Molla delivered a written statement at the event, held at the Bhola Press Club at 11:30 a.m. on July 23.

Association leaders highlighted that the route from Bheduria Ferry Ghat to Elisha Ferry Ghat is a national highway, while the 110-kilometer stretch from Paranganj to Char Fashion South Aicha is a regional highway. Under current BRTA regulations, three-wheelers such as CNGs and battery-operated auto-rickshaws are strictly prohibited from operating on both national and regional highways.

Despite the law, leaders alleged that three-wheeler drivers continue to operate recklessly. They noted that CNGs routinely carry up to five passengers instead of the permitted three, increasing the risk of fatal accidents. The association strongly criticized the BRTA and local law enforcement for failing to take legal action against these drivers warning that unchecked illegal vehicles are responsible for daily casualties and severe injuries.

The association emphasized that while larger commercial vehicles—such as buses, minibuses, and trucks—operate under recognized regulatory frameworks three-wheelers remain largely unregulated. They urged authorities to enforce BRTA laws strictly to prevent further loss of life.

President Aminul Islam Khan along with Vice Presidents Hasan Maksur Rahman Humayun Kabir Selim and Muntasir Alam Robin Chowdhury, also addressed the press conference.
