Heavy Rain Forecast in Four Divisions, Landslide Alert for Chattogram

Active monsoon conditions have intensified rainfall across southern and central Bangladesh prompting a warning for heavy to very heavy showers in four divisions over the next 24 hours. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has also issued a landslide alert for the hilly regions of Chattogram.

According to the latest BMD forecast, the monsoon axis stretches from India’s Punjab through West Bengal to Assam, heavily influencing weather patterns over southern Bangladesh and the northwest Bay of Bengal. Consequently the monsoon remains highly active in the southern regions and moderately active elsewhere.

Expect light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds, across most areas of Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Similar conditions will affect many parts of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.

The primary concern is the potential for heavy to very heavy downpours in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram. Due to these extreme conditions, the BMD specifically warns that landslides may occur in Chattogram's vulnerable hill tracts.

Meanwhile, both day and night temperatures are expected to drop slightly nationwide. Residents in high-risk hilly areas are advised to remain vigilant as the active monsoon continues its course over the coming days.
