


National Legal Aid Day 2026 was observed in Lakshmipur on Tuesday with the theme, "Ending disputes at government expense Bangladesh first."
The day’s activities began at the District Judge’s Court premises, where balloons and pigeons were released to mark the occasion. Organized by the District Legal Aid Committee, a colorful rally followed, parading through the city’s main roads before returning to the court for a discussion meeting.
Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Minister for Water Resources, and Md. Ismail Zabiullah, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Public Administration, joined the event virtually. In their speeches, they emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring legal assistance for marginalized citizens.
The meeting was chaired by Mohammad Shahin Uddin, Senior District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Aid Committee.
Key attendees included Sahab Uddin Sabu, Administrator of Lakshmipur District Council, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Judge of the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal, Shamsul Arefin, Judge of the Land Survey Appeal Tribunal, Samaresh Shil, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Md. Abu Tarek, Superintendent of Police, Dr. Mohammad Abu Hasan Shahin, Civil Surgeon
Legal Aid Officer Dilruba Yasmin, Bar Association President Md. Monirul Islam Howlader, and Secretary Mohammad Rafiq Ullah also spoke at the event. Speakers highlighted that the District Legal Aid Office remains a vital resource for those unable to afford legal fees, ensuring that financial constraints do not act as a barrier to justice.
The program concluded with a large gathering of judges, lawyers, administration officials, and members of the public.
