The upcoming national elections are a “golden opportunity to restore public trust by correcting mistakes” for the police, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Baharul Alam said. He said that every police member on the field during the elections should become a symbol of public trust.
The IGP made these comments while visiting a training workshop organized for police members at the POM meeting room of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Lines on Sunday afternoon. The workshop was organized with the aim of enhancing the efficiency, professionalism and sense of responsibility of the police in view of the national elections.
A press release signed by Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Gaziur Rahman on Sunday night said that the three-day training workshop is being held under the supervision of the RMP Training School on the instructions of the Police Headquarters. The IGP inspected the training activities of the sixth batch on Sunday.
During the inspection, IGP Baharul Alam said, “The national election is an important national responsibility. The role of the police in this is very important. Every police member must perform their duties with the highest standards of responsibility, honesty and professionalism.”
He also said, “The biggest challenge for the police during elections is to gain the trust of the people. Therefore, every member must work in such a way that people can trust the police.”
At this time, he gave detailed guidelines on the pre-election, election and post-election periods. In addition, the IGP also instructed to take a strict stance in any situation according to the law.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian, Rajshahi Range DIG Mohammad Shahjahan and senior officials of Rajshahi Range, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and Rajshahi District Police were present.
