RAB-7 arrested a suspected drug smuggler and seized 17,725 Yaba pills, worth approximately Tk 5.4 million, during a drive in Chittagong’s Hathazari upazila on Thursday afternoon. A microbus used to transport the drugs was also impounded.
RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) A.R.M. Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the details in a press release issued on Friday (June 19).
Acting on a tip-off that a large Yaba consignment was en route from Cox's Bazar to Chittagong city, RAB set up a temporary checkpost near S. Alam Market in Hathazari's Dhoppul area. During the operation, officers stopped a suspicious Noah microbus. A search revealed nine bundles wrapped in black tape hidden beneath the middle passenger seat, containing the 17,725 pills. RAB estimates the street value of the haul at Tk 5.42 million.
The arrested suspect was identified as Mohammad Ayub, 23, from the Natmura Para area of Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.
During initial interrogation, Ayub reportedly confessed to a long-running operation smuggling Yaba from the Cox's Bazar border region into Chittagong and other parts of the country. The suspect and the seized evidence have been handed over to Hathazari Model Police Station for further legal action.
