


A large-scale tree plantation program aimed at protecting the environment and expanding greenery has been inaugurated in Muksudpur Upazila of Gopalganj. Under the initiative, around 3,000 areca nut trees will be planted along both sides of the road stretching from Kothara Kandi to Bumoriya in Nowhata village under Mochna Union.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Thursday (May 21) at 11:30 AM, organized by the Upazila Administration of Muksudpur, Gopalganj. Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Arif-Uz-Zaman attended the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the plantation program.
Speaking at the program, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of tree plantation in maintaining ecological balance and reducing the adverse impacts of climate change. He urged everyone to plant more trees and ensure their proper care and maintenance.
Among others present at the event were Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmud Ashik Kabir, Upazila BNP President Abdul Salam Khan, General Secretary Md. Tarikul Islam Raju, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Kabirul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Social Services Officer Rakibul Hasan Shuvo, Palli Bidyut DGM Tushar Ahmed, Youth Development Officer Sayem Uddin, ICT Officer Abdul Baten Lolla, President of Muksudpur Press Club Md. Chhiru Mia, General Secretary Kazi Md. Ohidul Islam, along with journalists, public representatives, teachers, and students.
The speakers noted that environmental risks are increasing due to climate change, making tree plantation more essential than ever. They stressed that alongside government initiatives, people at the individual and community levels must actively participate in planting and preserving trees.
Organizers said that planting areca nut trees along the roadside would not only enhance the natural beauty of the area but also create future economic benefits for local residents. Local people welcomed the initiative and assured their support in taking care of the trees.
The speakers further remarked that there is no alternative to tree plantation in protecting the environment. They emphasized the need to transform tree planting into a social movement in order to ensure a safe and livable world for future generations.
Following the program, the Deputy Commissioner visited Nowhata Abdur Rahim Mia High School, where he held a nearly 20-minute discussion with around 100 students on science and environmental awareness. During the session, he highlighted the importance of scientific learning, environmental conservation, and moral values.
Later, he visited Government Primary School No. 64 of Nowhata and exchanged views with the students. He encouraged them to remain attentive to their studies and provided various motivational guidelines.
Local residents highly appreciated the initiative taken by the administration and expressed hope that similar environment-friendly programs would continue in the future.
