Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated a tree plantation campaign on Monday morning by planting coconut and neem saplings along the newly re-excavated Sarikal-Batajor Canal in Barishal's Gournadi upazila.
Accompanied by Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, the Prime Minister formally launched the initiative with the slogan "Bangladesh First". The campaign aims to plant a total of 2,500 saplings in the local area.
Addressing the gathered crowd of farmers and local residents, Rahman emphasized the vital importance of long-term environmental stewardship. "Our work will not end simply by planting the trees," he stated, urging citizens to nurture the young saplings every day just as they would care for their own children.
Following the plantation drive, the Prime Minister attended a community welfare programme in Batajor to distribute Family Cards to the female heads of beneficiary households.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister travelled to Barishal city to inaugurate a second tree plantation initiative along the Sagardi Canal, located near the Trish Godown Mass Killing Memorial. He concluded his day's itinerary by attending a BNP organizational meeting at the Barishal District Shilpakala Academy.
