In a unified show of support for flood victims Gazipur’s five Members of Parliament (MPs) will donate one month’s basic salary while local government employees will contribute one day's salary to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund.
The unanimous decision was made Sunday during a District Law and Order Committee meeting chaired by Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan.
Gazipur-5 MP AKM Fazlul Haque Milon initiated the move, pledging his month’s salary and urging government staff to participate. DC Bhuiyan and department heads quickly backed the proposal. The four absent MPs also gave their consent via phone.
"This joint initiative by public representatives and government officials is a responsible, humanitarian step," DC Bhuiyan stated, expressing hope that Gazipur's prompt response will inspire other districts.
The district administration will coordinate the collection of the government employees' funds over the next three working days before transferring the total amount to the Prime Minister’s fund.
Key officials, including Gazipur District Police Superintendent Md. Sharif Uddin, Additional District Magistrate Salma Khatun, and other senior law enforcement and administrative heads, attended the meeting.
