The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has deployed personnel across 11 flood-stricken districts—including Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet—to conduct rescue missions, distribute relief, and provide medical care. Triggered by heavy rainfall and landslides, the floods have left thousands vulnerable. Operating through 90 observation points, the BGB has safely rescued over 600 individuals, provided emergency healthcare, and cleared debris to restore vital infrastructure like the Bandarban-Rumaingchhari road. Operations will continue until local conditions stabilize.
In parallel, the government is addressing domestic financial pressures with a Tk60,000 crore incentive package designed to boost production and combat inflation, which rose to 9.42% in May 2026. Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury confirmed that Bangladesh Bank will maintain the policy interest rate at 10%. To increase revenue transparently without burdening ordinary citizens, the National Board of Revenue is launching a technology-driven crackdown on wealthy, deliberate tax evaders using expanded e-return systems and risk-based audits.
Additionally, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the timely completion of Dhaka's Dhanmondi and Gulshan lake restoration projects. He emphasized taking strict action against illegal waste discharge to permanently protect the capital’s environment and water bodies.
