Recent floods and continuous rainfall in Chattogram have triggered a surge in snake infestations, leaving at least 75 people injured by snakebites over the past few days. Fortunately, no fatalities from snakebites have been reported so far.
In response to the crisis, Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam confirmed that upazila health complexes are fully stocked with antivenom and essential medical supplies. Special medical teams are actively deployed across the flood-affected areas, providing frontline healthcare, vital medicines, and oral rehydration saline (ORS).
To protect the most vulnerable, authorities have issued urgent instructions to ensure that pregnant women and seriously ill children are quickly transported by boat to nearby hospitals when necessary.
While snakebite victims receive treatment, the broader flood crisis remains severe. The death toll from widespread floods and landslides across five districts has reached 51. This includes 28 fatalities in Cox's Bazar, 13 in Chattogram, six in Bandarban, three in Rangamati, and one in Moulvibazar. Additionally, 39 people have been injured in flood-related incidents across these regions.
