Journalists have been subjected to many tortures and imprisonments in the past, said BNP Chairperson's Advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan.

He said this in his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the 'Abul Khair Bhuiyan Media Team' at Karim Tower in Bagbari, the district town, on Tuesday night.

Khair Bhuiyan said, Sagar-Runi were killed for reporting on the grand corruption of the previous government. This is a terrible thing. The prerequisites of Bangladesh's liberation war, movement, struggle and democratic system are to establish people's rights in this country and build a corruption-free society. But we have seen that the longer the power lasts, the more their fascist character, single-handed character, and control over all media. Those who have expressed the truth have been severely affected. That day, we were tortured even when we stood by the journalists. Everything was controlled. Journalists were imprisoned, tortured, tortured. So that such incidents do not happen again in the future, so that no fascists are born in this country, so that no dictatorship, no corruption occurs.

He said, although Sheikh Mujib was loyal to newspapers before 1971, he closed several newspapers after coming to power.

He also said, various works were done in the past, but the quality was not good. Money for the work was taken away through corruption. Thousands of crores of taka were smuggled out of the country. The previous head of government and his relatives looted Sheikh Mujib's family with money equivalent to the budget of Bangladesh for 11 years.

Present at the event were BNP leader Harunur Rashid Bepari, Raipur Municipal BNP President ABM Jilani, General Secretary Nazrul Islam Liton,

Abdul Karim Bhuiyan Mizan, Sadar Upazila (West) BNP President Mahbubul Alam Khokon, District Ulama Dal President Shah Mohammad Emran,

District Jubo Dal General Secretary Syed Rashidul Hasan Lincoln, among others.
