A Vishnu idol recovered from Porsha upazila in Naogaon has been handed over to the Barendra Research Museum in Rajshahi following a court order.
The handover took place on Tuesday afternoon. The idol was received by Dr Kazi M Mostafizur Rahman, acting director of the museum.
According to Porsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Rahman, the idol was উদ্ধার on February 25, 2026, around 10:30pm. Acting on a tip-off, police found it abandoned in a family graveyard beside a house in Shitali village under Nitpur union.
The idol is about 56 inches tall and weighs approximately 137 kilograms.
Police later filed a petition on March 1, seeking court approval to transfer the seized artifact under the Antiquities Act, 1968 (amended in 1976). On March 12, the court ordered that the idol be handed over to the Barendra Research Museum.
Following the order, police formally transferred the artifact to museum authorities on Tuesday.
