4-Day Baisakhi Festival and Folk Fair Begins in Lohagara

The traditional four-day Baisakhi festival and folk fair commenced on Tuesday at the historic Sri Sri Baba Buro Thakur's Gachtala Dham in Daulatpur, under Itna Union of Lohagara Upazila.

Priest Laxmikanta Chakraborty officially inaugurated the festivities at noon, joined by Kartik Chakraborty, Jaydev Samajdar, and other religious leads. The opening ceremony drew local dignitaries, including festival committee convener Bijan Kumar Sen, freedom fighter Nanigopal Dutta, and temple management president Alok Saha.

Following the inaugural puja, prasad was distributed to the gathered devotees. The four-day itinerary features a rich blend of cultural and religious events, including Baul and Bhajan Kirtan performances Matua gatherings and Harinam Sankirtan Harijatra and local cultural programs

A vibrant folk fair has also sprouted around the Gachtala Dham, with vendors offering various traditional goods.

"This ancient institution has hosted these Baisakhi celebrations for 21 years," said Convener Bijan Kumar Sen. "It has evolved into a true folk festival for the entire community. We welcome everyone, regardless of caste or creed, to join us in making this celebration a success."

The Gachtala Dham holds significant historical value, located near the Makimpur Kachari house of the legendary philanthropist and landowner, Rani Rashmoni.
