Five police officers were injured on Tuesday morning after being attacked by an accused man’s accomplices during an arrest attempt in Charbhadrasan Upazila.
The incident occurred around 10:00 AM at Chorman Khan Bazar in the Char Salepur area of Charharirampur Union.
The injured officers—identified as SIs Ripon Hossain, Mozammel Haque, and Md. Rafiquzzaman, ASI Gazi Sohel Rana, and Constable Ujjal Hossain—received treatment at the Charbhadrasan Upazila Health Complex.
Police sources report that the team, dressed in plain clothes, arrived at the market to apprehend Kabir Khan, an accused in an Anti-Terrorism Act case. Although officers successfully handcuffed Khan, his brother and a group of supporters launched a sudden attack, forcibly "kidnapping" the suspect from police custody.
Dr. Hafizur Rahman, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, confirmed that while two officers were advised to be hospitalized due to their injuries, they opted for primary care instead.
Sub-Inspector Md. Rafiquzzaman, acting OC of Charbhadrasan Police Station, stated that the suspect was later re-arrested. Legal proceedings regarding the attack on the police are currently underway.
