The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized approximately 4,200 liters of illegal fuel oil during a raid in the Meghna River under Bhola’s Daulatkhan upazila on Monday night.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the operation on Tuesday morning. Acting on a tip-off, a special team from Coast Guard Base Bhola conducted the drive near Chowki Ghat around 8:00 PM.
During the operation, officers intercepted a suspicious wooden boat. Upon searching the vessel, they recovered 4,200 liters of petrol, estimated to be worth 5,67,000 BDT. The fuel was reportedly being moved for illegal storage.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a group of dishonest traders had been collecting this fuel illegally from various domestic oil tankers to sell on the black market. Legal proceedings regarding the seized oil and the vessel are currently underway.
