


The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized over three tons of banned polythene and manufacturing materials during an overnight raid in Bhola’s Daulatkhan upazila early Friday. One person was arrested and subsequently fined for operating the illegal facility.
Acting on intelligence, a Coast Guard team from the Bhola base conducted a special drive around 3:00 am in the South Joynagar area. They raided a suspected illegal factory and an adjoining warehouse with recovering 1,510 kg of manufactured polythene valued at approximately Tk.13.54 lakh along with 1,500 kg of raw materials used for production.
During the operation, law enforcers arrested Md. Shahabuddin (39), a resident of Dhaka’s Lalbagh area, for his involvement in the illicit manufacturing process. Lt. Md. Salman Bin Shawkat, Media Officer for the Coast Guard South Zone confirmed the details of the successful raid.
Following the seizure a mobile court led by a Daulatkhan Executive Magistrate fined Shahabuddin Tk.1 lakh. After depositing the penalty into the state treasury the accused was released on a bond.
The confiscated polythene and raw materials were handed over to the Department of Environment (DoE) in Bhola for further legal action and environmentally safe disposal. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal polythene production to protect the local environment.
