


German Ambassador Dr. Rudiger Lotz met with the Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, today to discuss democratic reforms and bilateral cooperation.
The meeting took place at 2:00 PM at the opposition leader's parliamentary office. Dr. Lotz was accompanied by Political and Press Officer Sharlina Nuzhat Kabir.
During the cordial exchange, the leaders focused on consolidating parliamentary democracy, the implementation of the "July Charter," and the proposed referendum. Ambassador Lotz emphasized Germany’s interest in seeing robust good governance and accountability established within Bangladesh.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman reaffirmed Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to the July Charter, stating that the party seeks qualitative reforms to prevent the return of one-party rule.
The discussion also covered the strengthening of democratic institutions and the expansion of bilateral ties. Both parties expressed optimism regarding future cooperation in trade, investment, education, and skill development.
Other attendees included Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan MP, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Kashem MP, and Foreign Affairs Advisor Ali Ahmad Mabrur.
