With the theme “I am a girl child— I dream, I fight with courage, and work for the welfare of the country,” National Girl Child Day was observed in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon on Wednesday (October 8).
An event marking the occasion was held at 11am in the Upazila Parishad hall room, organized jointly by the Upazila Administration and the Upazila Women Affairs Office.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mosammat Murshida Khatun presided over the discussion meeting, while Upazila Women Affairs Officer Rita Rani Pal moderated the programme.
Among others, Upazila Election Officer Ashraful Haque, Social Services Officer Sadiqur Rahman Mondol, Rural Development Officer Habibur Rahman, Niamatpur Press Club President Shahjahan Shaju, and Credit Supervisor and Computer Operator Al Mamun spoke at the event.
Speakers emphasized the importance of ensuring the rights and safety of girl children and called for a change in family and social attitudes toward them.
At the end of the programme, UNO Mosammat Murshida Khatun distributed cheques among women beneficiaries under the small loan programme and provided general grants to voluntary women’s organizations.
