A large hilsa weighing 2.5 kg was caught in a fisherman's net in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur. The fish was later sold for 9,200 taka.
On Sunday (October 26) morning, local fish trader Amir Bepari bought the fish for the highest price at an auction at Motirhat fish market in Kamalnagar.
It is known that Bhola fisherman Saddam went fishing in the sea with 15 companions three days ago. When he cast his net at night (October 25), the large hilsa was also caught along with other hilsa. Later, when the fish was brought to the shop, the local fish trader bought it at the highest price at a post office (auction). However, he got such a high price because there was little fish in the river. Bargainer Babul said, "The fisherman Saddam Majhi brought this big hilsa to my shop along with many other fish. The price of the fish at the auction was 9,200 taka. This is the first time that hilsa has been sold at such a high price at our pier today. Such a big hilsa is not usually caught in the net. Businessman Amir Bepari said, "I bought the hilsa weighing 2 kg 500 grams for 9,200 taka. There is a huge demand for big hilsa in Dhaka. It will be sent there. I hope I can sell it for at least 11 to 12 thousand taka."
