Police recovered the body of a man from the Kapotakkhya River on Sunday morning, five days after he went missing near the Fultala ferry ghat in Paikgachha upazila.
The deceased has been identified as Rabiul Islam (48), also known as Sedu, son of Munsur Gazi from Motbati village in Gadaipur union.
According to local sources, Rabiul, who reportedly suffered from epilepsy, fell into the river on January 6. The incident occurred near the Mahmudkati Balia ferry ghat while he was returning from his grandfather's house in Satkhira.
Despite an intensive search operation by the Fire Service and a diving team from Tala Police Station, strong river currents prevented his rescue at the time.
Locals spotted the body floating near a trawler at the Fultala ferry ghat around 7:00 AM on Sunday and alerted the authorities.
"We recovered the body upon receiving the information. The victim's family has already identified him, and we are currently preparing the post-mortem report," said SI Rabiul Islam of the Paikgachha Naval Police Outpost.
