Local BNP leaders and a businessman held a press conference at Hanif Miyajir Hat in North Jaipur Union on Saturday afternoon to protest what they called false and defamatory allegations of extortion.
The briefing was organized in response to an earlier press conference by local trader Nurul Islam Dulal, who accused North Jaipur Union BNP President Md. Mustafa Babul Master, Jubo Dal leader Abdul Mukit Sohel and businessman Anwar Hossain of demanding a Tk 1 lakh bribe.
Denying the allegations, Mustafa Babul Master explained that local BNP leaders had only mediated a land dispute arbitration following directives from the Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge. He claimed that Dulal behaved aggressively during the meeting, prompting a protest from Jubo Dal leader Sohel, which later led to the fabricated extortion complaint. He described Dulal as a serial litigant who routinely harasses locals with meritless lawsuits.
Businessman Anwar Hossain added that he shares a long-standing land dispute with Dulal's family, who have reportedly filed 10 to 12 cases against him and initiated multiple physical altercations. Anwar alleged that Dulal used political backing during the previous regime to target opponents and is now using false press briefings to malign BNP leadership after an alleged clash involving Dulal's son on May 24.
