The festive spirit of Charak Puja turned into tragedy on Friday evening after a four-year-old girl was severely burned in a cooking accident in Paikgachha Municipality.

The victim, Payal Mandal, daughter of Sanjit Mandal, fell into a large pot of freshly cooked hot mango pickle at her home in Saral Majher Para (Ward No. 4).

Witnesses stated that the family was preparing a feast for monks and guests as part of the puja celebrations. While the adults were busy with arrangements, Payal was playing nearby and inadvertently fell into the scalding container.

Family members rushed her to the Paikgachha Upazila Health Complex. Dr. Imran Hossain, the on-duty medical officer, provided primary care but confirmed that the child suffered extensive burns, particularly to her lower body. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) for advanced treatment.

The local community has been struck by a wave of grief, with neighbors offering prayers for the young girl's recovery.
