More than a hundred residential students were reportedly deprived of Iftar due to mismanagement at an Iftar programme organised at Bijoy–24 Hall of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) on the occasion of University Day.
Students said the Iftar items ran out well before the scheduled distribution time. Many who had been waiting in line returned to their rooms without receiving any food, leading to widespread frustration among residents.
According to the students, the programme lacked proper planning. There was no token system or verified list of beneficiaries, making fair distribution difficult. They also alleged that the organisers failed to estimate the actual number of residential students, resulting in a shortage of food. Some students claimed outsiders managed to collect Iftar items due to weak supervision.
Mehedi Hasan, a student of the 2022–23 session at Bijoy–24 Hall, said residential students regularly pay hall fees but were still deprived of Iftar. He alleged that fewer food packages were prepared than required and that many students did not even receive basic items such as water or juice.
Another student criticised the decision to organise the programme in an open space without a token-based system, calling it irresponsible. He demanded proper planning, controlled distribution, and stronger supervision for future large-scale events.
Contacted for comment, Professor Dr Md Masudur Rahman, Provost of Bijoy–24 Hall, admitted that mismanagement had occurred. He said the matter was being reviewed and that alternative arrangements would be made for students who did not receive Iftar.
