


The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has conducted a special campaign in the Falmondi area under Kotwali police station in Chattogram city to control the rise in prices and monitor the market. In this campaign conducted on Wednesday (February 18) under the leadership of Chattogram Divisional Office Deputy Director Faiz Ullah and Assistant Director Aminul Islam, a total of 1 lakh 8 thousand taka was fined to 5 business companies for various irregularities. This administrative action has been taken on the charges of selling fruits and gas cylinders at high prices and lack of transparency in business operations.
During the campaign, it was seen that several companies were operating their businesses in violation of government rules. A company named 'Mayabi Fruits' was fined 20 thousand taka for not displaying the price list and not properly maintaining the correct accounts of purchase and sale. Along with similar irregularities, another company named ‘Ms. Tuhin Enterprise’ was fined Tk 30,000 for charging consumers for excessive prices. In addition, the officials conducting the operation fined ‘Ms. Umaima Enterprise’ Tk 4,000 for maintaining incorrect business accounts.
As part of this market surveillance program, ‘Siam Cosmetics’ was fined Tk 4,000 for selling unauthorized cosmetics. However, the largest fine in the operation was imposed on ‘Hawk and Brothers’. They were fined Tk 50,000 for selling gas cylinders, which are essential for the common people, at a price higher than the prescribed price. The Department of Consumer Rights Protection has informed that such surveillance operations will continue regularly to ensure transparency in the market and fair prices of products to protect the interests of the common people.
