Winter clothes distributed among needy and disabled people in Nageshwari

Winter clothes were distributed among needy, helpless, disabled and transgender people in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram on Thursday.

The distribution was organised by Inspiration Welfare Society in collaboration with RTV. More than 200 people received blankets at Char Bishnupur area of Kedar Union at around 11am on January 22.

The programme was chaired by RTV Kurigram North Correspondent Abdul Kuddus Chanchal. Former deputy general manager of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Lutfar Rahman Dulu, attended the event as chief guest.

Among others present were Nageshwari Press Club general secretary and Channel 24 Kurigram district representative Golam Maula Siraj, Asian Television district representative Hafizur Rahman Hridoy, social organiser Mahbub Zaman Ranju, Kachakata Char Development Committee vice-president Abdur Razzak and general secretary Monirul Islam Milan.

Before the distribution began, a special prayer was held for the welfare of the country and the nation. The programme was supervised from Dhaka by Syeda Munira Islam, general secretary of Inspiration Welfare Society.

Speaking as chief guest, Lutfar Rahman Dulu said Kurigram is one of the country’s cold-prone areas where many poor people suffer during winter. He thanked Inspiration Welfare Society for distributing blankets in the char areas and said selecting the most needy people was a timely and commendable initiative.

Syeda Munira Islam said meaningful social development is only possible when underprivileged people can live with dignity. She said the organisation gives special importance to supporting the disabled and helpless.

She added that Inspiration Welfare Society will continue its education, health and humanitarian activities in the future. She also thanked the local administration, media professionals and volunteers for their cooperation and urged affluent members of society to come forward to support humanitarian causes.
