


Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust Managing Director Muhammad Abdullah said that it is the responsibility of the state to support journalists as a risky profession. The Welfare Trust is fulfilling that responsibility.
He said that there is a plan to provide educational scholarships to the children of journalists. Work is underway to bring indigent senior journalists under the monthly allowance. The Journalist Welfare Trust is taking the initiative to formulate a policy in this regard.
He said all these things in his speech as the chief guest at the distribution of the second installment of cheques for the current fiscal year of the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust in the conference room of the Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner's office on Tuesday, January 13.
The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md. Momin Uddin. The event was conducted by Advocate Akkas Sikder, President of the Journalist Union Jhalakathi.
Jhalakathi Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam, Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Deputy Director ABM Rafiqul Islam, Khulna Metropolitan Journalists Union President Md. Rashidul Islam, Barisal Journalists Union President Azad Alauddin, and Jhalakathi Journalists Union General Secretary Shafiul Azam Tutul were special guests at the check distribution ceremony.
Cheques worth Tk 1.5 lakh were distributed among 27 media workers from Barisal, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur and Barguna districts at the ceremony.
