Long-standing local rivalries between the Mridha and Thakur groups escalated into violent clashes in Parmallikpur village, leaving at least three people seriously injured and causing widespread property damage.
The violence began around 8:00 PM on Saturday at a local tea shop. Members of the Thakur group allege they were attacked with indigenous weapons by the rival Mridha group. The injured—identified as Hisam Kazi (35), Shariful Mola (36), and Bulu Kazi (45)—were rushed for medical care, with two later transferred to Jessore Pangu Hospital due to the severity of their wounds.
In a suspected retaliatory move on Sunday morning, the Mridha group reported that 12 houses and shops belonging to their members were vandalized and looted by the opposing side. While the Mridha group has denied the initial Saturday night attack, the village remains in a state of high tension.
Despite previous arbitration meetings and a recent peace settlement brokered by the Superintendent of Police and local dignitaries at Lohagara Police Station, the deep-seated conflict continues to persist.
A team led by Lohagara OC Abdur Rahman and Inspector Ajit Kumar Roy has visited the scene. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation.
