The Lohagara Upazila Health Department has ordered the sealing of the operation theater of Morsheda Surgical Clinic in Lohagara Upazila of Narail, all activities of the clinic until further orders, including the sealing of the clinic's operation theater, on charges of stitching with gauze on the patient's stomach.
The Lohagara Upazila Health Department conducted the raid on the clinic located at C&B Chowrasta at 11 am on Wednesday (December 10). At this time, Lohagara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abul Hasnat ordered the sealing of the clinic's operation theater and closing all activities until further orders. EPI Project Chief Coordinator Prasanta Ghosh, Administrative Officer, Lohagara Upazila Clinic and Diagnostic Owners Association General Secretary Raju Ahmed Bappi and others were present.
Lohagara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abul Hasnat said, based on the complaint, I visited the Morsheda Surgical Clinic. At that time, various irregularities including the clinic's license, which expired in June 2022, the absence of a full-time doctor, the absence of a diploma-holding nurse, and various other irregularities were observed. For this reason, the operation theater of the clinic has been sealed and all activities of the clinic have been ordered to be closed until further orders. In addition, the accused doctor has been instructed to refrain from all operations until further orders.
According to the written complaint, Sumi Khanam, the wife of Shawkat Molya of Dakshin Pangkharchar village of Itna union in Lohagara upazila, was admitted to the Morsheda Surgical Clinic located at the intersection of C&B road in Lohagara upazila on Saturday (November 22) morning due to the possibility of having a child. At that time, the doctors on duty there, Newaz Morshed, Al Khadija Sampa, clinic owner Zakir Hossain, manager Sumon, nurse Sabina and other patients advised Sumi to undergo a cesarean section. Later, the doctors took her to the clinic's operation theater and performed a cesarean section on a contract of 13,000 taka. During this time, Sumi gave birth to a daughter. After the operation, the patient's stomach swelled and she was sick all the time.
After that, when the two doctors who performed the cesarean section were informed, they said that the patient had gas pains. Later, on November 27, they were discharged. Later, as the patient's condition worsened, a specialist doctor was shown on December 4. After seeing the medical report, that doctor advised taking the patient to Khulna Medical. Accordingly, when Sumi was taken to Khulna Gazi Medical on December 7, the doctor, after examining her, said that during the cesarean section, the patient's abdominal artery was cut. Despite knowing the incident, the artery was pressed and sutured with gauze without proper treatment, resulting in a festering wound.
In this incident, patient Sumi's cousin, Kazi Yajur Rahman Babu, former chief organizer of the Narail district of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, filed a written complaint with the Narail Civil Surgeon last (December 9).
