The District Administration Laboratory High School was officially inaugurated in Shantiganj Upazila, Sunamganj, by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Ilias Mia on Monday.
The school is located west of the main road in Astma village, on the north side of the Sylhet-Sunamganj regional highway. Following the inauguration ceremony, the school authorities hosted a farewell reception for the outgoing Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sukanta Saha. Saha, who is being transferred, was honored as the inventor and founder president of the 'Shantiganj Model' in the field of education.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Syed Ramiz Uddin, Principal of the new school. DC Md. Ilias Mia, speaking as the Chief Guest, highly praised the role of outgoing UNO Sukanta Saha, calling his initiative to establish the school "truly unique" as a school was "badly needed" in the area.
The District Administration will allocate Tk 2 lakh within 10 days for filling soil to ensure a safe playground for the children. Separate merit tests will be organized in five such schools to provide students with advance preparation for 5th and 8th-grade scholarship exams.
The DC stressed that the most important factor for the school’s success is the appointment of qualified teachers, stating, "There is no problem if the school is broken, but there is a problem if the teachers are broken."
The new UNO will serve as the ex-officio president of the school, ensuring strong guardianship. New UNO Md. Shahjahan, Subiprob Syndicate Member Ansar Uddin, and former Shantiganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Faruk Ahmed also spoke at the event, which was attended by upazila administration officials and local dignitaries.
