Lakshmipur Municipality has successfully completed the payment of long-pending retirement arrears totaling 4 crore 91 lakh 77 thousand 645 Taka to its retired officers and employees.

The full payment, which benefited 79 retired staff members, was achieved in four phases following the July Uprising. The final phase of the distribution took place on Wednesday (December 10) afternoon at the municipality hall room, where a check of 63 lakh 38 thousand 219 Taka was distributed to 9 people.

The program, presided over by Municipality Administrator and Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Md. Jasim Uddin, included distinguished guests such as Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan and local civic leaders.

Speakers at the event noted that it was "sad" that an 'A' class municipality allowed such dues to accrue, stressing that retirees should receive their benefits immediately upon retirement. They expressed gratification that the sincerity of the current municipal administration, following the July Uprising, led to the clearance of all dues, and voiced hope that no official or employee's money would be kept in arrears in the future.
