Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus addressed Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) nationwide via videoconference, calling the upcoming national polls a "historic opportunity to build a new Bangladesh" following a 'post-mass uprising context'.

He instructed the UNOs to ensure the elections are "historic and memorable" through "fair and flawless management."

Prof. Yunus stressed that this election is a "historic responsibility" unlike any other, stating that successfully performing this duty will make the polls day historic for the nation's people.

He asserted that history has provided a unique chance to build a new Bangladesh, warning that failure to use this opportunity would cause the nation to "stumble." He also criticized previous elections under the "last regime" as "not elections, but fraud."

The Chief Adviser compared the officials to "midwives," stating, "If the midwife is good, the babies born will also be good." He emphasized that the government's success largely depends on how sincerely UNOs discharge their duties.

Prof. Yunus highlighted that both the election (for the next five years) and the referendum (for a hundred years) are crucial. He explained the referendum's importance as an opportunity to "permanently transform Bangladesh" and "lay the foundation of the new Bangladesh."

UNOs were instructed to organize a "peaceful and festive election," visit all polling stations, and hold discussions with all concerned parties. He stressed the need to create awareness among voters about the referendum, convincing them to decide whether to vote 'yes' or 'no'.

He emphasized that it must be ensured that women can properly reach the polling stations. Officers were advised to be creative in handling any situation and take measures to prevent misinformation and rumours.

The virtual event was joined by UNOs, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Cabinet Division officials. The Chief Adviser noted that the election schedule will be announced soon, and UNOs must prepare their plans accordingly.
