The court has granted bail to Nishi Rahman, the wife of the government official arrested in the sensational eight puppy murder case in Pabna's Ishwardi. Judge Tariqul Islam of Pabna Administrative Court-2 granted her bail on Sunday afternoon. Advocate Moshfeka Jahan Kanika, a lawyer assisting the state, confirmed this information.
She said that the date of the accused's bail hearing was scheduled today. The judge granted her bail after the hearing. Since it is a bailable crime and considering the woman, her bail has been granted. The next appearance date is January 11 next year.
Advocate Kanika said, the case will now be investigated, and after the investigation, a charge sheet will be filed in the court. Then, if we see that the charge sheet or investigation has not been done properly, then we will take further legal action including a disapproval application. We want the investigation to be done properly and the punishment for this trial to be ensured.
Engineer Harun Or Rashid, local representative of People for Animal Welfare Foundation (PAW), said, "We have appointed a lawyer from the foundation to assist the state. We will continue this case in the future for a fair trial. Our protest is against cruelty or violence. Not against the accused. Many people will be wary if there is a punishment for cruelty and violence.
Incidentally, a dog named Tom has been living in a corner of the Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer's residence for a long time. A week ago, Tom gave birth to eight puppies. Since last Monday morning, the mother dog has been crying and running around in a state of madness after not finding her puppies.
Later, the Upazila Parishad employees came to know that the wife of Hasanur Rahman Nayan, an officer of the Small Farmers Development Foundation of the Ishwardi Upazila Rural Development and Cooperatives Department, tied eight live puppies in a sack and threw them into the Upazila Parishad pond sometime on Sunday night. The bodies of the puppies were recovered from the pond on Monday morning.
In this incident, on Tuesday (December 2) at around 11:30 pm, Ishwardi Upazila Livestock Officer Aklima Khatun filed a case with the police station, accusing Nishi Rahman as the plaintiff. Later that night, the police arrested him from his rented house and handed him over to the BKC court the next day, Wednesday (December 3). The court rejected his bail and sent him to jail.
