Md. Zahidul Islam, the Central President of Chhatra Shibir, expressed disappointment that the "fundamental change" expected in Bangladesh's political culture following the events of July-August 2024 is not visible among certain individuals, parties, or groups.
Speaking at an election rally for Uzirpur Union Jamaat in Chauddagram Upazila, Comilla, on Sunday afternoon, Zahidul Islam made the following points: He acknowledged that a "big change" and a "fundamental revolution" have occurred in the thinking of the current generation. He cited the recent university elections as evidence that ordinary students are moving towards liberal, tolerant, and constructive politics, rejecting "old-fashioned politics and culture."
Despite this positive generational shift, he expressed sadness that the fundamental change in political culture is not noticeable everywhere.
He alleged that in some cases, certain parties or groups have taken up "the work that fascist Hasina could not do." He declared that the politics of murder, disappearance, stoning people, extortion, and corruption will not continue, asserting that the new generation will not accept this "hateful politics."
He emphasized that the generation capable of bringing down "fascists like the murderous Hasina" demands the practice of tolerant politics in Bangladesh, stating that the politics of "throwing tears at each other or attacking each other has been buried in July-August."
The rally was held in Miabazar, Chauddagram Upazila, Comilla, and was chaired by Uzirpur Union Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abul Hashem.
Other prominent leaders present included Comilla South District Ameer Advocate Mu. Shahjahan, Metropolitan Secretary Maulana Mahbubur Rahman, and Comilla South District Shibir President Mohiuddin Rony.
Prior to the rally, a large procession of Jamaat and Shibir leaders and activists took place on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in support of Jamaat's Naib-e-Ameer Dr. Taher and the "scale symbol."
