A major fire broke out at the Rashid Oil Mill factory, which includes an edible cotton mill, in the Ramchandra Baharpur area of Ishwardi Upazila around 3 pm on Wednesday (December 3).
Four units of the Ishwardi and Rooppur Fire Services were deployed and successfully brought the blaze under control.
While the exact cause remains unknown, initial reports suggest the fire originated in a pile of abandoned cotton located between the Rashdi Oil Mill and a neighboring factory.
Warehouse Inspector Amrul Islam of the Ishwardi Fire Service noted that workers cutting a nearby tree might have inadvertently started the fire, possibly from a discarded cigarette.
Md. Monarul Islam, administrator of the factory, stated that the intense heat was exacerbated by wax from the mill's processes. Initial estimates place the financial loss due to the fire at approximately Taka 5 lakh.
