Family Planning Department employees on strike and sit-in for 3rd consecutive day

Field-level employees of the Family Planning Department in Shantiganj Upazila, Sunamganj, have been observing a three-day consecutive strike and sit-in at the Upazila Family Planning Office premises. The movement, which began on Tuesday, December 2, and continued through Thursday, December 4, mirrors similar protests across the country.

The striking employees, comprising Family Welfare Inspectors (FWV), Family Planning Inspectors (FPI), and Family Welfare Assistants (FWA), are demanding the speedy publication and implementation of the proposed recruitment rules. Speakers at the program highlighted the long-term delay in implementing the new recruitment rules, which has resulted in Stagnation in promotions, Problems with salary structures, Lack of scope for professional development also anger and frustration among employees despite their crucial field-level services.

The protesting staff argued that the government's failure to update the service structure is negatively affecting the work environment and morale of those who make significant contributions to the family planning sector.

They strongly demanded that the government must quickly publish the appointment rules gazette, increase promotion opportunities and remove structural inconsistencies.

The employees warned that the movement will continue until their demands are met, and they are prepared to adopt more stringent programs if necessary. The leaders concluded by urging government departments to take immediate action to ensure the quality of family planning services can be maintained.
