After a long wait, residents of Puran Jahanpur, Srinathpur, Kashipur, Narayankuri, and Asammura in Sunamganj’s Shantiganj upazila finally have a paved road. Funded by a 6 lakh taka allocation from local MP Koychar M. Ahmed and implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), the new 643-foot road drastically improves daily commutes and access to healthcare.
Previously, the dirt road connecting the Venkhali LGED road to the Asammura Clinic and Srinathpur village turned knee-deep in mud during even light rain. During the monsoon season, the route became impassable, preventing students from attending school and severely delaying patients trying to reach the community clinic.
Following appeals from the community, MP Ahmed prioritized the project. With the road now paved, residents can safely commute and access emergency medical care, especially at night.
Local villagers and Union Parishad (UP) members—including Roshan Ali, Abdul Matin, and several residents from Asammura and Srinathpur—expressed their relief. In a shared statement, they noted: “This road was neglected for years. Now, students and patients can travel without hardship. We are deeply grateful to the local authorities for fulfilling this long-standing demand.”
Shantiganj LGED Engineer Md. Sajedul Alam confirmed the project was fast-tracked due to its urgent public importance. “The new road removes a major barrier for the community, finally bringing an end to the daily struggles of the local people,” he said.
