The long-awaited construction of the Patharghata Bridge has officially begun, marking a significant milestone for the residents of Basail, Sakhipur, and Mirzapur upazilas. On Saturday afternoon, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan, MP, formally laid the foundation stone as the chief guest.
The bridge, situated at the junction of the three upazilas, has been a priority project following years of public demand. Once completed, it is expected to transform the local economy by streamlining the transportation of agricultural goods and improving daily commutes for thousands of residents.
The ceremony was presided over by Tangail LGED Executive Engineer Mohammad Kamruzzaman. Special guests included Tangail-7 MP and BNP Children's Affairs Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and local administration.
Project details confirm that the bridge is being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) at a cost of 63.5 crore BDT. National Development Engineers Limited (NDE) has been tasked with the construction, which is scheduled for completion by June 3, 2027.
