Daganbhuiyan Municipality hosted its first public consultation meeting on Wednesday, June 8, to outline a comprehensive municipal master plan. The initiative falls under the Local Government Engineering Department's (LGED) Urban Mobility and Infrastructure Development Project (IUGIP), an ongoing development program spanning 15 municipalities.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Municipal Administrator Md. Shahidul Islam presided over the morning session. PDRC Chief Executive Officer Sarwar Hossain presented the core project framework to the attendees. Meanwhile, Dr. Sanjida Mahbub, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, and Afsana Kamal, IUGIP Senior Consultant, led discussions on improving urban mobility.
The event prioritized public value by facilitating an open dialogue between officials and citizens. Approximately 100 representatives from the municipality’s nine wards attended alongside local political and social leaders. Community figures, including PDB Chairman Nazir Ahmed, FTC Market President Nizam Uddin Haider, former commissioner Gias Uddin, and journalists Shawkat Mahmud and Moazzem Hossain Malder, actively shared their feedback on the area's infrastructure needs.
In his closing remarks, Administrator Md. Shahidul Islam emphasized the necessity of civic engagement. “Our municipality faces numerous challenges that can only be solved with the sincere cooperation of our citizens,” he stated. “If you stand with me, I will work to resolve these issues. Collective effort in urban management is absolutely essential.”
A follow-up consultation meeting is scheduled for Thursday to finalize citizen recommendations.
