A high-level meeting in Chhatak on Wednesday reviewed ongoing urban development projects aimed at transforming the municipality into a sustainable and livable city under the Integrated Urban Governance and Infrastructure Project (IUGIP).

Presided over by Chhatak Municipality Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mohiuddin, the event at the municipal auditorium focused on infrastructure development, waste management, safe water supply and alleviating chronic waterlogging.

Sunamganj-5 MP Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon attended as the chief guest alongside representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the French Development Agency (AFD), which support the IUGIP initiatives.

During the session Municipal Executive Officer Sharadindu Roy and Engineer Abdul Malek delivered a multimedia presentation detailing the progress of current road and drainage projects as well as future urban planning strategies.

Speaking on behalf of the Town Level Coordination Committee (TLC) former municipal councilors, journalists and community representatives urged authorities to prioritize citizen services. They stressed the need for inclusive, people-friendly development plans and immediate solutions to local drainage issues.

Special guests included Finance Ministry Joint Secretary Mostafa Morshed, Local Government Division Joint Secretary Parimal Sarkar, ADB-AFD Review Mission Team Leader Amit Dutta Roy and AFD Bangladesh Country Director Cynthia Mela.

The speakers concluded that building a modern, clean and sustainable Chhatak requires coordinated, transparent efforts between government agencies, international development partners and local residents.
