


Two villagers clashed over a trivial incident in Kalirbazar of Chauddagram, Comilla on Monday night. During this, traffic on at least two kilometers of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway was stopped for at least 15-20 minutes. Several stranded cars on the highway were vandalized in the clash between the two sides.
A motorcycle was set on fire. At least 10-12 shops on both sides of the highway were vandalized and looted in the counterattack. At least 8-10 people were injured. Among the injured were Anik, son of Badiul Alam of Ramchandrapur, and Raihan, son of Abul Kashem of Gomarbari. On receiving the information, Chauddagram police reached the spot and brought the situation under control and normalized the traffic.
According to local sources, a dispute arose between some teenagers from Panchra and Ramchandrapur villages during a waz mahfil at Kalirbazar Hosainia Madrasa on Sunday night. In view of this, on Monday evening, when people from both villages gathered with country-made weapons, a chase and counter-chase and brickbat pelting began.
As a result, at least 8-10 people from both sides were injured. At one stage, both sides vandalized and looted 10-12 shops in the market. The chase and counter-chase incident stopped traffic on both sides of the highway for a while. This caused a traffic jam on at least a 2-kilometer section of the highway. During this, 5-6 vehicles on the highway were vandalized.
On receiving the information, Chauddagram police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Nizam Uddin, a businessman from Kalirbazar, said that there was a dispute between the boys of Panchra and Ramchandrapur villages at a waz mahfil in Kalikbazar on Sunday night. Due to this, people from both villages gathered and chased each other after Monday evening. At one stage, they attacked and vandalized 10-12 shops in the market, including my shop. The attackers took away several lakhs of cash and goods from my shop.
Abdus Sobhan from Ramchandrapur village said that several shops and houses, including my shop, were vandalized in Ramchandrapur village just before Maghrib.
Officer-in-charge of Chauddagram Model Police Station Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed said that after hearing about the clash between two villagers in Kalirbazar area, we quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. We normalized the traffic on the highway, which was closed for some time. The situation is currently calm.
